Getting Started
Getting set up to start managing HR
A step-by-step guide to completing your initial Dapplon setup — from company details to your first employee record.
Before you begin
Setting up Dapplon correctly the first time saves hours of cleanup later. The initial setup takes about 30 minutes if you have the following information ready:
- Your company's legal name, registered address, and GST/tax number
- Your company logo (PNG or JPEG, at least 200×200 px)
- A list of your departments and job grades
- Your payroll frequency (monthly, bi-monthly, weekly)
- The bank account from which salaries are paid
Note
You do not need to add employees before completing this checklist. Add your configuration first, then add employees.
Step 1 — Complete your company profile
- Log in to admin.dapplon.com with your admin credentials
- Click Settings in the left sidebar
- Go to Company Profile
- Fill in your legal company name, display name, and registered address
- Upload your company logo — this appears on payslips and offer letters
- Set your primary timezone and default currency
- Click Save Changes
Step 2 — Set up your departments
- In the left sidebar, go to Organisation > Departments
- Click Add Department
- Enter the department name (e.g., Engineering, Sales, Finance)
- Optionally assign a department head from the dropdown
- Repeat for all departments
- Click Save after each one
Step 3 — Configure payroll basics
- Go to Payroll > Settings
- Set your payroll frequency (most Indian companies use monthly)
- Choose your payroll cut-off date — the last day of payroll data included in each run
- Set the standard pay day (e.g., the last working day of the month)
- Add your bank account details for salary disbursement
- Enable statutory components: PF, ESI, and Professional Tax if applicable
Note
Payroll settings cannot be changed mid-cycle. Complete this before adding employees or running your first payroll.
Step 4 — Set up leave types and policies
Before employees can apply for leave, you need to configure leave types (Annual Leave, Sick Leave, etc.) and at least one leave policy.
- Go to Leave > Leave Types
- Click Add Leave Type and define each type (name, paid/unpaid, carry-forward rules)
- Go to Leave > Policies and click Add Policy
- Assign the leave types to the policy with annual quotas
- Assign the policy to a department or employee group
Step 5 — Add your first employee
- Go to Employees in the left sidebar
- Click Add Employee
- Fill in personal details, contact information, and department
- Set the salary structure and joining date
- Click Send Portal Invitation — the employee receives an email to activate their Employee Portal account
In this section
- Navigating the Company Admin dashboard
- Setting up your company profile and branding
- Inviting your HR team and setting permissions
- Adding a new employee — step by step
